A devil of a phone

Designed to win the hearts and minds of Red Devils fans all over the country. TrueMove H has just released the True Beyond 4G Manchester United Limited Edition phone.

The smart phone comes in the black and red colours of Manchester FC and sports the club’s logo on its back. The cover is in red and front rim is also red forming a nice contrast with the black edge around the 4.3-inch display.

To further please the fans of the football club, the Man-U limited edition phone comes with four themes that use pictures of Man-U football players or the club’s former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, as animated wallpaper and screen savers. One theme boasts an image of Ferguson with the words “Thank You, Sir Alex”.

The phone also comes with content applications that allow Man-U fans to monitor the football club and get updates on match results. Games are uploaded too and invite fans to play with or use Man-U players as characters.

The Man-U limited edition phone runs on Android 4.2.2 operating system and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.5 GHz processor. Its 4.3-inch display uses IPS technology and it has 1,289 x 720 pixel resolution.

The phone supports 4G LTE 2100 MHz connection with the maximum download speed of 100 Mbps and HSPA 3G connection with download speed of 20 Mbps using 850 and 2,100 Mhz bandwidth.

I didn’t have the chance to take the phone to Siam Square or any of the other locations where TrueMove H’s 4G service is active so I tested the phone on TrueMove H’s 3G connection.

The phone performed well and both the touch screen and menu were responsive. Downloading applications and installing them was fast and smooth and encountered no problems.

I was also able to quickly update my Facebook status and check feeds on my Facebook wall.

Among the interesting applications exclusive to the Man-U limited edition phone is MUTV. The application provides access to the MUTV Channel around the clock. During the test, I found that the streaming video from the station played smoothly and was sharp. The app also provides access to highlighted video clips of the team.

Man-U fans who like to monitor their favourite football team, should enjoy the H Match application. H Match is divided into five sections: Guru, Predictor, Ranking, All Games and Profile.

The Guru section provides access to comments and analyses of all matches throughout the 2013/2014 season, including matches in the Premier League and Champion League cups. All Games, as its name implies, gives all the scheduled matches.

Users of the Man-U limited edition phone can join a competition by predicting match results. The Ranking app shows the top users with the most correct guesses of match results while the Profile displays statistics of the phone owner in terms of accurate guesses.

You are required to log into H Match with your Facebook account or True ID to join the competition.

Two games that use Man-U players as characters are H Runner and H Keeper.

In H Runner, you control a player to dribble the ball and need to have the player slide or jump to avoid obstacles and to collect coins for buying performance-boosting items. During the test, the game ran smoothly and was quite fun.

In H Keeper, you control the goalkeeper as he tries to catch the ball in a penalty kick by one of more than 20 Man-U players, one at a time. You control the goalie by tilting the phone so that the keeper’s gloves move to the direction of the kicked ball in time to catch it.

Users of Man-U limited edition phone with a monthly package can also choose the free call-waiting Manchester United anthem and Man-U ringtone as well as receiving free SMS notifying scores of the team and sport news.

Moreover, they will get 25 MB more of Internet access for every goal the team scores. The data amount is doubled if the team wins the match.

True Beyond 4G Manchester United Limited Edition phone is available from True Shop at Bt9,990.
