For example, if your house burned down last week the company would have to sell you fire insurance and pay for the damage to your house. Even arsonists who make a living burning down their own property and collecting insurance could not be denied coverage. To make sure the companies have enough money to pay for this, all taxpayers – including people who don’t own property – would be required to buy fire insurance or face penalties from the IRS. Those of us who suggest that maybe a better solution would be for people to take better care of their property would be accused of being cruel and heartless. After all, why should you bother to take responsibility for your own life when President Obama insists I pay all your bills?
