Luksika surges into Taiwan WTA semis

Thailand's No 1 Luksika Kumkhum recovered from a set down to beat Croatia's Petra Martic 3-6 6-1 6-4 in one hour and 32 minutes and book a semi-final slot in the US$125,000 OEC Taipei WTA Series in Taiwan yesterday.

The 114th-ranked Luksika, who earlier upset Kazakhstan’s world No 81 Yaroslava Shvedova 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-4 in the second round, next faces second seed Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium, who beat Saisai Zheng of China 6-3 6-1. The semi-final will mark the first meeting between Luksika and the world No 59, who reached a career high of No 12 in 2010. The big-serving Wickmayer has three WTA titles to her name, with her latest coming in Auckland three years ago.
