“Hobson’s choice” is a “free choice” in which only one option is offered.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra would have us believe she makes her own decisions and is loyal to the country. Why did she pass two bills on to the Senate without her name on them, neither of which had the country’s best interests at heart? She will claim these were “parliamentary bills”. The bill to amend Article 190 of the Constitution, which would deny Parliament the right to vote on treaties with other countries, was like turkeys voting for Thanksgiving. It did not bar anybody living abroad “who could not influence anything going on in Thailand” from taking full control. The amnesty bill to bring the PM’s brother back to Thailand smelling of roses and ready to be loaded up with cash should have been a non-starter. How many politicians were self-serving in voting for this bill?
As her brother found out, the PM is responsible for everything that goes on in government. She cannot pass on these issues.
The court faces a Hobson’s choice.
