Thanks to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s men, within three weeks her past good work has evaporated into thin air. The latest demand from these men, to impeach the Constitutional Court judges, is a sure way to nail her down.
First, the impeachment is an insult not just to the judges but also to the Constitution. These men accepted the rules, but then revolted when the judgement was not to their liking.
Second, to call a judgement a “coup” is erroneous, because the government is still in power. Call it that when Yingluck has to join her brother in Dubai.
Third, citing the court’s interference in their power-by-majority is simply wrong. Tony Blair and others had warned them that majority rule does not mean “winner takes all”. Instead, as this court also pointed out, it should leave room for the minority to form a genuine opposition.
Finally, the government and Pheu Thai Party freely submitted to the Constitutional Court’s judgement. It is now too late for them to question what authority the court had to judge them.
Yingluck’s team is plainly oblivious to the feelings of others and has now tried to cause a constitutional crisis just to please one man. If I were the government, I would try to stay in power, humble and silent. There will be an opportune time for that one man to come home in the future, but not now.
