There are times when we blurt out something radical-sounding that we don't really mean. We say it out of exasperation or frustration. This is what happened when red shirts said they wanted to form a separate state in the North.
I don’t see why everybody, especially Army Chief Prayuth Chan-ochoa, is so jumpy. Surely the red shirts meant the threat as a sarcastic comment on the political scene.
Anyone genuinely concerned about secession should look to the deep South. Guys down there have been screaming for decades that they want to form an independent state of Patani. And they are serious too. They kill monks, teachers and other citizens. They torch schools and bomb shops and houses. They ambush soldiers and they even raided an Army camp and strolled away with hundreds of M16 rifles. These are the real separatists, but nobody gives a hoot about them, not even the Army chief.
