WE DON’T give a lot of thought to the ceiling as long as it stays where it’s supposed to be. It’s there to reduce the heat, basically. But a ceiling actually offers a way to express yourself stylishly too. There’s a wide variety of boarding available and they can even be mixed and matched to achieve different design results depending on your preferred decor style.
Thaywin Wannabumroong, design director at Tra Chang by SCG, has introduced four innovative ceiling designs using various Tra Chang SmartBoard products.
The first is called Urbaneast. “It’s the East-meet-West design approach – simple colour and outline with a hint of the Orient in the pattern,” says Thaywin.
“The smartboard timber series echoes the texture of real timber, so it goes well with beige or light-brown acrylic paint for a warm look. For a more contemporary look, the wood-grain smartboard can be used in combination with the square edge of ceiling board to create unique lines and patterns. The overall ambience can be played up by installing oriental-style lamps and using gold, brown and red as the colour scheme for the furniture.”
The second style, Lullaby, induces a sense of airiness and an amiable ambience. The colour is light and clean, such as beige or white. The square-edge ceiling board can be installed in various ways, including T-bar or tiered, and then design finesse is added by integrating the three-inch lining series of the board. Light-shaded furniture or small items such as a lamp and indoor plants can accentuate the cosy feeling.
Third, ReVals offers an unconventional approach, combining imagination with creativity for the striking appeal of dynamic lines and bold colours without losing sight of the natural. Boards with square edge meet a lining series with timber panels used here and there, and parts of the ceiling can be painted.
“The stylish ambience of ReVals can be heightened further with unique furniture or selected furnishing items made from recycled materials,” Thaywin says. He suggests chairs with denim upholstery and photo frames or a desk made from recycled wood, “along with bright and distinctive theme colours, such as orange and red.
Finally there’s the style called Experiment, which plays with bold contrasts and patterns. It’s a little challenging to match the square edge and the lining boards for a nice interplay of vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines. More inventiveness is needed when integrating other materials, such as the wooden board, to give the ceiling its final detail.
Modern furniture in contrasting shades, such as red and orange or brown and yellow, will give the room extra charm.
