Eric Baht makes a common mistake. He believes Thaksin came to power on the back of populist policies. What evidence of populist policies does Mr Bahrt have prior to the 2001 election? Thaksin came to power by “persuading” MPs from other parties to join his new Thai Rak Thai party. They did not join because they wanted to do good things for socialist reasons. The greed fest that followed is ample proof of that. It was greed that led to both coups.
