Tell them the Pharaoh sent you

You too can walk like an Egyptian after a visit to The Met Store at The Emporium

“THE MET” – the Metropolitan Museum of Art store at the Emporium selling reproductions from the famed New York museum – travels to Ancient Egypt for its latest assortment of fabulous home decor and gift ideas.
In fact there are reproductions of 26,000 art and historical objects dating from Palaeolithic times to the days of the Roman Empire. That’s 300,000 BC to the fourth century – so you’ve got a lot of choices!
But the items from the Land of the Nile are truly outstanding. There’s a large cat sculpture in hand-painted bronze that looks like it was lifted from a tomb of the Ptolemy kings (332 to 30 BC). The cat was of course regarded as sacred to worshippers of the goddess Bastet.
A glazed earthenware Faience Hippo sculpture was discovered in the tomb chapel of Senbi II, steward to the royal family. Here it’s reproduced in authentic detail.
The Egyptian Amulet collection includes a Torsade necklace, pin and earrings in 24-karat gold overlay, enamelled by hand with a red sun at the centre. They’re copies of jewellery worn in ancient times by Princess Sithathoryunet.
The Egyptian Broad Collar Beaded Jewellery Set – necklace, bracelet and earrings – is made of colourful faience beads laid out to mimic a row of cornflowers and lotus petals. The pieces are adorned with blue lotus blossoms and buds and poppy petals.
The Egyptian Kha silk scarf is based on the one depicted in a painting in the tomb of Kha at Quarna, which dates to about 1400 BC and was only rediscovered in 1922.
The Met store is at the Emporium. Find out more at (02) 664 9191 or (02) 651 4117.
