The 19-year-old, who made headlines around the world 12 months ago by upsetting Li Xuerui of China to become the youngest champion at 18, has been diagnosed with type B influenza, according to her manager Kanitsara Ngensrisuk.
The badminton ace was admitted at the Vichaivej International hospital on Wednesday and had a fever of 39.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday night. However, Kanitsara posted on her Facebook that Ratchanok’s condition has improved. Doctors have suggested that she remain in hospital for three more days.
Ratchanok, who reached a career best of No 2 last year, was also advised to rest for a week without heavy training. It’s uncertain if she would be fully fit to defend her title at the World Championship, to be played from August 25-31 in Copenhagen.
