Without zoning, Bangkok will disappear under water again

Now the rainy season has arrived, so has the threat of flooding. Much of this excess water is drained to the sea via the Chao Phraya River.

But a major impediment to this drainage is the activity of the ship repainting yards close to the Rama IX Bridge. They take up almost half of the riverside there, obstruct water flow and create a shallower channel. It’s time these yards were moved down the coast to Bang Pakong. Bangkok is in need of new zoning if we are to avoid more heavy flooding.
