The RP Motorsport driver started on pole but lost the early lead to Spanish arch-rival Alex Palou of Campo Racing. But as rain began to fall, Stuvik’s superior handling came to the fore and he overtook the Spaniard to win easily and maintain his 28-point lead in the championship.
“It was a very tricky race with conditions changing from wet in some sections to completely dry in others. I was on the radio with the team a lot about whether we should change tyres but in the end we decided to stay on the slicks. It was really tough race but I’m also extremely happy to win again here at Spa,” said the 19-year-old Stuvik, whose long-term goal is a seat in Formula One.
With seven race wins in 2014 including both outings at Silverstone, England, Stuvik is closing in on the title but refuses to take his foot off the pedal.
“Yes I am confident, but anything can happen here and it’s important not to get complacent.”
Stuvik leads the overall standings on 214 points, followed by Spaniard Palou on 186 and Atur Janosz of Poland, on 161.
