And where was the logic before the coup?

Re: "Simple logic seems to have fallen victim to the coup", The Nation, September 9.

Journalist Pravit Rojananaphruk recalls General Prayuth Chan-ocha telling the media during one of the Thaksin proxy regimes that staging a coup would solve no problems. Pravit claims that logic evaporated with the May 22 coup.
I think many of us Nation readers wonder what logic he’s talking about. Murdering innocent demonstrators and bystanders, small children and women with grenades and war-weapons? Never finding any of the assassins then, nor the murderers from 2010, the “men in black”?
Of course there is no democracy now – and there wasn’t any before the coup. The man must be very impatient.
The power is now in the hands of calm people, with goodwill paving the way to real democracy.
Maybe all the horrible, messy “democracies” in the Third World would have benefited from a learning period like Thailand is going through now, instead of jumping into democracy and getting a system of greedy, selfish predators grabbing all the political positions.
For a good man like Prayuth to do the job, he needs to keep a firm grip, because predators are still lurking in Thailand and abroad, ready for a counter-coup.
People need to understand and then accept the conditions during this “special period”.
