I am 89 years old, retired, and currently staying in Bangkok with my son and his lovely wife Constance. I have nothing to do here except read The Nation, watch CNN and occasionally wait for my son outside the Nana Plaza.
I notice that sometimes The Nation prints quotations from prominent figures, which might strike the average mind as somewhat unusual: often remarkable, sometimes amazing, occasionally unbelievable or even absurd. To keep my mind occupied, I propose to keep an eye out for such quotations and bring one of them to the attention of your readers each week in the form of a “Quote of the Week”. No charge for this – it’s free. I just want to keep busy.
I found the first one in your issue of October 14, and it’s only Tuesday. Under “Govt yet to differentiate itself from elected regimes”, Prime Minister Prayut is quoted as saying, “Bread makes you fat. Eating rice won’t.”
That’s my Quote of the Week for this week. I hope you like it, but I think we need some scientific evidence that eating rice doesn’t make people fat.
