Thai FA to review police report

The disciplinary panel of the Football Association of Thailand yesterday decided to defer its decision on the hooliganism that marred Muangthong United's home league match against Singhtarua at the weekend.

A clash between rival supporters broke out outside the SCG stadium on Saturday night following Muangthong’s 3-1 comeback win over Singhtarua, leaving scores of the home fans injured. Police arrested several among the Singhtarua supporters, who have earned a reputation for unruly behaviour.

The disciplinary panel met yesterday at the Thai FA office to review the incident, with match commissioner and representatives from Muangthong and Singtarua summoned for the hearing.
However, panel members said they needed more evidence from the police before taking a decision on the matter, though they emphasised that the guilty would be punished and sanctions likely applied to one or both clubs over the next term, given only four matches are left in the current Thai Premier League season.
“We need information from Pakkret police station, which oversaw the case. We will send them a letter asking about three main things: who instigated the incident, how many fans were injured and how many have been charged with criminal offences.
“We need more time to consider everything before ruling on the charges each club will face for the incident. But we will definitely take action and try to reach the decision as soon as possible. With the TPL season due to end in two weeks’ time, any punishment will be carried over to next season.
“Even though what happened was between the supporters, the clubs cannot shake off their responsibility,” said Pol Col Narat Sawettanant, the disciplinary panel chairman.
