It's Cara's dream wardrobe

Supermodel Cara Delevingne inspires a casual collection for DKNY

Cara Delevingne has been modelling street-chic styles for a slew of high-end brands since she appeared on the scene four years ago, memorably Mulberry’s autumn-winter line this year. Now she’s got her own name on a “capsule collection” for DKNY.
When the DKNY “CaraD4DKNY” set came out, the supermodel with the distinctively dark and bushy eyebrows expressed surprise that her “random, rough ideas” turned into a line of clothing.
“Having my own name on a collaboration with an iconic brand like DKNY is so wild,” she said. “It’s been an entire year since we began planning this project together, which just goes to show that time really does fly when you’re having fun!”
Club21, the 15-piece unisex line’s sole distributor in Thailand, presented it at Siam Paragon recently. The local fashion plates were all smiles on seeing the overall sporty looks, which include a casual grey suit, low-slung trousers, a jumpsuit, a T-shirt, tank tops, track pants, a leather jacket, a sport bra and a cool street jacket.
“I love to layer every which way,” Delevingne has said. “There are 15 pieces to play with – no rules.”
Inspiration came from the model’s own star and lion tattoos and her favourite colours – yellow and green. There’s lots of detail, like inside pockets. And her signature beanie in black and highlighter yellow is inscribed with the collection’s name, DKNYXCARA.
Delevingne actually began working with DKNY almost two years ago. “They encouraged my design input, my personal style and my ideas right from the very beginning. Our creative synergy only grew with time, and before you knew it we were exchanging ideas for a jumpsuit.
“It was an organic process and it made sense. DKNY is urban and edgy, but most of all, it’s individual. They truly embrace the weirdness in all of us, so you can really be yourself.”
Delevingne arrived in New York when she was 15 and immediately spotted a DKNY mural on a Manhattan building. “To me DKNY captured the essence of New York and set trends for young people everywhere. I bought my first pair of DKNY jeans on that trip.”
In the new line, the crop top is essential, she said. “You take it from there. A sweat suit or jumpsuit – put it on and you’re done. My dream pantsuit, for me, starts with being able to ‘boy it up’, split it up or suit it up as needed. There are tanks, tees, fun hoodies, track pants, a leather crop bomber to die for and, of course, an amazing parka – an urban must!”
