Putin's tsar power

Re: Quote of the week

The quote of the week for November 9-15 was reported on Saturday, November 15 (“Australian and British leaders tell Putin to stop being a bully”, World). Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott was quoted as accusing Vladimir Putin “of trying to relive the ‘lost glories of tsarism’.”
Lost glories of tsarism? Tony-baby, the tsarist system was a monstrous, oppressive despotism of unspeakable cruelty. There was nothing glorious about it at all.
With the possible exception of Catherine the Great, who was reputed to have been a “hot babe”, many of the tsars, like Ivan the Terrible, were tyrants, bullies and homicidal maniacs. “Cool Vlad” would not want to be like them, would he?
Or would he?
