Boost education standards with exams for teachers

Re: "Govt must pre-empt looming teacher crisis", Thai Talk, November 27.

I agree with Suthichai Yoon that, with 30 per cent of the country’s 400,000 teachers set to reach retirement age over the next four years, the government should start looking for qualified replacements in a systematic manner.
I would also suggest that all current teachers should take an examination once a year, to ensure they are capable of doing their jobs.
Just as students have to go through exams in order to make their grades and to graduate, teachers should go through the same process on a regular basis to ensure that they keep improving themselves academically. The result would be improvement in the country’s education system.
