A nip in the air

The popular Overcoat festival returns to Phetchabun for its fifth edition

Thailand’s only music event where it gets chilly enough to wear a coat – the Overcoat Music Festival – was held recently in Phetchabun province with the Jollyland Starlight Amphitheatre in Khao Kho once again rolling out the red carpet to welcome fans.
This year’s festival, on the theme “Colourful”, featured a variety of pop, rock, surf and alternative music from 19 bands.
The show kicked off early in the afternoon and it was still warm enough before the music started for some members of the audience to grab places at the front of the stage and tuck into a picnic. Before long though, the festival was underway with Yamin performing a brief set before handing over to Good September for such hits as “Phap Wela Derm Derm”. Chilling Sunday was next up with “Chan Khid”, followed by Oh Rujapa with “Kay Kai” and Fellow Fellow with “Suan Bukkhon”.
Peet Peera performed perennial favourites “Kham Sang Jak Huajai” and “Kwam Rak Dee Dee Yoo Thi Nai” before mingling briefly with the audience then joining with guitarist Juk Chawin to jam “Ther Suay”.
Screams and cheers greeted Two Poptorn who sang hits “Khae Pen Ther” then handed over to Tor Saksit who had the crowd singing along to “Rak Ther” and “Mai Pood Kor Khao Jai.”
With the sun setting and the temperature dropping, it was time for the music to get hotter with the Musketeers, Singto Numchok and Ben Chalathit taking to the stage one after the other.
Moderndog had the audience dancing to new and old hits including “O-Noi-Ong” and “Ta Sawang”, while Lipta got them swaying to “Patiset Yang Rai” and “Khae Roo Wa Rak”, on which they were joined by Chilling Sunday’s Palm. The dancing continued throughout Scrubb’s set that included “Thuk Yang” and “Khao Kan Dee”.
Slot Machine then rocked with “Kham Sudthai” and “Chan Chao” before handing over the mic to Bedroom Audio and 25 Hours.
Lomosonic was the last band on stage with well-known songs including “Khor” and the party carried on well into the night with DJs April and Leonie spinning one cool tune after another.
