NRC man seeking medal needs more humility

A local news agency reported that a member of the National Reform Council suggested that he and his colleagues receive Royal decorations as a reward for what he describes as their "sacrifices" for the sake of the country.

The report did not mention whether the exact nature of these sacrifices had been explained, but it did state that the chairman of the NRC immediately terminated the session, stating that the proposal would be discussed in a closed session at a later date. He ordered the media representatives present not to broadcast the discussions relating to the suggestion.
This remarkable proposal seems to me to be somewhat presumptuous, not to mention premature, as the NRC has a long road to travel yet before the success, or otherwise, of its role in the reform of the country’s political system will become apparent. I am also sure that there are many, many people from all walks of life, and in all parts of Thailand, who have made real sacrifices for the sake of their country without asking for, or even expecting, public recognition of some sort.
No doubt this member of the NRC possesses sterling qualities which led to his appointment to the Council, but humility does not appear to be one of them. It is a disappointing example from someone on whom so much trust has been placed, and whose priorities really should be with the future of the country, rather than with his own self interest.
