Islamic terrorists should be called something else

Re: "We need a new name for these terrorists", Letters, January 21.

“A Reader” suggests that we call the Islamist terrorists “pseudo-Islamists”, and their demented ideology “pseudo-Islam”.  That sounds a little wimpy. We need more robust terminology.
Prolonged and intense discussions between me and me mates in that cauldron of intellectual ferment, Soi Cowboy, have spawned a term that I hereby propose to the august readers of The Nation. The Common Man is an infallible source of wisdom, and nobody is more common than me, and me mates.
The term we favour to designate the terrorists is “raghead w**kers”. We award it no capital letters, because capital letters confer prestige, and terrorists don’t deserve any.
Critics may complain that this term is racist and vulgar. We reply that “raghead” has nothing to do with race. It simply refers to headgear. “W**kers” references an activity popular among young men. To denigrate it as vulgar is to insult the youth of the world.
On behalf of the Common Man, therefore, I suggest that we call the terrorist lunatics “raghead w**kers” and their mad-dog ideology “raghead w**kerism.”
If anybody objects that this letter contains hate speech, my response is that I am merely expressing my opinion. If it inspires hatred in your mind, that’s your problem. I suggest that you take a Valium and do some meditation.
