Letter writers and Stephff were in fine form on Jan 30

Your three intelligent letters in the Letters column on January 30 were thought-provoking.

Mike Pirsch’s “Democracy lessons from the world’s master coup-maker” on America’s record of 80 coup attempts since 1953 should be recommended reading for General Prayut Chan-o-cha. Stephff’s cartoon beside it had Uncle Sam saying, “The whole world is MY business”.

Simplicity is Burin Kantabutra’s letter “Friends are for reminding us”. If Daniel Russel was a real friend of General Prayut, he would be lucky not to have his nose broken for what he said at Chula.
David Brown’s “How is the baht defying gravity?” is a lament of the falling value of the Australian dollar – from Bt32 to Bt25.7 – despite Thailand’s woes. David, the woes, as some high-minded non-Thais put it, are not viewed as woes by the majority of Thais (an opinion poll said so). Additionally, foreign investors voted with their money, favouring the one and only Thailand ETF fund, as quoted in New York. The stock price of Thailand (“THD”) is up 5 per cent in a month, and is expected to go even higher – per ETFtrends.com’s “Yingluck’s Bad Luck no Such Thing for Thailand ETF”.
Furthermore, commodities have not been kind to Australia while the economic vibration is in Asia.
