Is Egyptian dictatorship really a role model for Thailand?

Re: "Sometimes, dictatorship makes more sense than democracy", Letters, February 25.

With a myriad of countries thriving under democracy, letter-writer JC Wilcox tweezed out Egypt to show that military dictatorship makes more sense than democracy and that Thailand is thus doing the right thing by adopting the same system.
This is like suggesting that kids should quit university so they’ll be successful and famous like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs. After all, why sweat for a degree only to find yourself working under those dropouts?
Meanwhile, those in power should perhaps consider giving Wilcox Thai citizenship (if he hasn’t got it already), and a lifetime position in the Foreign Ministry, for standing firmly with the junta and for twisting, bending and distorting facts to justify the coup.
