A group of singers celebrate Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's birthday with a single and a shirt

POPULAR SINGER Thanaporn “Parn” Waekprayoon is leading a group of artists signed with RS Public in marking the 60th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn by raising funds through CD and T-shirt sales for the construction of a temple. They are also taking part in the charity event “Satthee Phra Wassa Siam Borom Raja Kumaree", which is being held Wat Pathum Wanaram Ratcha Wora Viharn near Siam Square, on April 2, the Princess’s birthday.
In addition to Parn, the contributing artists include a cappella group Alarm 9, Lalita “Noey Senorita” Singtothong, Patra “Patto” Chatborirak, Suquan Bulakul and Thanavate “Gap” Siriwattanakul. And as well as preparing for the upcoming |event, they are also selling a |collection of purple polo shirts, priced at Bt359, and the single |CD “Naree Rattana” for Bt149.
“First of all, we’d like to thank all the artists, actors and actresses who are joining us in celebrating the Princess’s birthday. I would really like to see all Thais wear the purple polo shirts and sing along with us on that day,” says Parn, one of four commentators for Channel 3’s singing reality show, “The Voice Kids Thailand”.
Penned by Suthipong Sombatchinda, with music by Alarm 9’s Dechanat “Note” Teeraduriyasarit and arranged by Jesada Suktramorn, “Naree Rattana” is inspired by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s story “Dern Taam Roy Thao Phor” |(“In the Footstep of My Father”). It recounts how the Princess must shoulder the burdens of the Thai population and speaks of her royal duties under the guidance of His Majesty the King.
“There’s a sense of Thainess in the melody of the song to portray the Princess’s royal duties. One of these is to serve as a patron of culture. The arrangement is simple but powerful with an invigorating string session and the sound of the ranad (xylophone), which will remind people of the Princess’s talent for this instrument,” Dechanat says.
Other activities scheduled for the charity event include the reciting of a prayer, the chanting of “Sarapanya” for the Princess, a photo exhibition related to the Princess’s 60th anniversary as well as several booths offering Sri Pathumwan’s products.
