Rhythms with a Latin beat

Salsa and bossa nova rule next weekend at the second "Rerng Leelas Pleng Latin" concert

AFTER ENJOYING phenomenal success with its debut “Rerng Leelas Pleng Latin” concert last year, Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre is bringing back those Latin beats next weekend with a full-scale “Rerng Leelas Pleng Latin” concert being staged on March 29 at 2pm at the downtown venue.
Songwut Sawasdee and Channel 3’s Saifon Cheechang recently hosted a press conference to talk about the second concert as well as its objectives and collaborators before handing over the stage to some of the artists who will be wowing the audience at this year’s event.
Pasakorn Rungrueangdechapat, who won the “Sueb San Tamnan Pleng” music contest in 2006 and is a former member of soul pop band Now and Then, performed the Italian pop song “Quando, Quando, Quando” in bossa nova style.
Napada Sukkrit served up French romance with “C'est Si Bon” while Sma Suaysod pleaded with the audience to love him in “Besame Mucho”, one of the most sung and recorded Mexican and Latin American songs in the world. Suda Chuenban wrapped up the mini show with the smooth “Corazon de Melon.”
Other singers taking part in the upcoming concert include Chanthana Kitiyapan, Santi Lunpe, who is better known for his renditions of Thai patriotic songs and Kraiwit Poomsukho. Also on stage will be the winners of “Sueb San Tamnan Pleng”, among them Supakit Kalyanakul, who was also one of contestants with Joey Boy's team at “The Voice Thailand Season 3”, Pattaranit Peturiyavej, Katathip Akarawikrai, Lakkana Boonbutr, Lance Corporal Walayanat Somuam and the three Khienman sisters Pakaporn, Kenika and Pathitta from the “Singing Kids” contest.
The song list features a wealth of Latin American sounds, among them “Jamaica Farewell”, “Copacabana”, “A Little More of Your Amor”, “Banana Boat Song (Day-O)”, “Cuando Sali De Cuba”, “Oye Mi Cuerpi Pide Salsa”, “Quizas (Perhaps)”, and “Quien Sera (Sway)”.
The singers will be backed by dancers from Boonlert Dance Sport and the Chalermraj Big Band, under the baton of Virat Yuthavorn.
