Get the tigers out of the temple

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the director-general of the Department of National Parks, Plants and Wildlife, as well as the minister of Natural Resources and Environment, for taking swift action against Kanchanaburi's so-called Tiger T

Over the last few years we have received numerous reports and complaints about exploitation of the temple’s captive wildlife, particularly tigers, as photo props and for the amusement of visiting tourists.
We urge the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to continue its investigation into the disappearance of at least three tigers from the temple, reported by temple staff. By taking action to investigate the disappearance, the unregulated keeping and breeding of tigers, and the international illegal trade in this endangered species, Thailand will be taking steps to fulfil its commitments under the UN Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
We would urge that all of the wild animals kept illegally at the temple be removed to government facilities or properly regulated havens elsewhere. We look forward to cooperating with authorities in finding the best solution for these animals in the near- as well as long-term future.
