In praise of the Princess

Silpakorn effort pays tribute to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with an exhibition, book and apps

Silpakorn University celebrates the 60th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with the “Living Memories” exhibition, which chronicles the Princess’ relations with the university and explores her studies and artworks. The initiative is supported by a book and fully integrated computer apps.
The exhibition aims to honour the Princess’ achievements in various disciplines, including archaeology, epigraphy, painting, ceramics, architectural conservation, music and art.
An alumnus of Silpakorn, the Princess earned her master’s degree in Oriental Epigraphy at the Faculty of Archaeology, and the show includes the various honorary doctorates conferred on the Princess by university, as well as a collection of other awards and citations.
The Princess’ life on campus is recalled through photos of personal items, like her student ID, registration slip, notebooks and thesis.
A display of her academic research is featured along with 15 paintings and 13 ceramics created by the Princess.
The architecture section focuses on the renovations to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in 1982 to mark Bangkok’s bicentennial. The work was spearheaded by Her Royal Highness at the behest of His Majesty the King.
The music section introduces six royal compositions by the Princess that have been rearranged with her gracious permission. These are “Pituret Marndorn”, “Rak”, “Menu Khai”, “Somtam”, “Loke Patjuban” and “Taam Roithao Poh”.
There is also “M Book”, a multimedia volume that documents the Princess’ royal activities in support of Silpakorn as well as the Kingdom’s art and culture. It showcases her accomplishments through photos, videos, animation and sound files.
The book app, “sirindhorn&su” can be downloaded for free on gadgets running iOS, Android and Web platforms from noon today, via Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
Silpakorn’s virtual exhibition app, “sirindhorn@suexhibition”, can also be downloaded for free. It presents a guided tour through the exhibition, giving everyone a chance to see the show, even if they can’t be there.
