We're splurging Bt36 billion for two submarines, saying that Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore have them. Thailand would be far better served if we spent the funds on fast patrol boats, etc to fight illegal and unregulated fishing and human traff
As we are entering into tighter economic integration with our neighbours, simultaneously going into an arms race with them doesn’t make sense.
On the other hand, fast patrol boats, etc would go a long way towards getting us out of the EU’s “yellow card” and the US Tier 3, forestalling trade bans and immensely improving our image, benefiting our tourist industry and investment.
