Nepal is suffering from inaccurate tongues as well

With all the news reports coming out of Nepal, I find it irksome that most international newscasters consistently mispronounce the country's name. It's not Ne-PAWL, people - it's Ne-PAHL.

The Indian and Nepali reporters know this. The others don’t. The reason is that Nepal is spelled with a long A in the Devanagari script used in the Nepali, Hindi and Sanskrit languages, and the long A is pronounced AH. And those big mountains they’ve got over there are not the Hima-LAY-as. They’re the Hi-MAHL-ayas. But I’ve given up fighting that battle.
Let’s not add insult to the injuries inflicted on the long-suffering Nepalis by mispronouncing their country’s name.
