On Thai roads, might has right of way

Re: "A culture of callousness", Editorial, May 10.

It is common sense that on roads the pedestrian should take precedence over the cyclist, who should take precedence over the motorcyclist, who takes precedence over the car, which takes precedence over the lorry, truck or bus. But the sad reality in Thailand is that the reverse is true.
This, combined with the general impunity with which drunk drivers “wander” over our roads, is largely responsible for the one of the highest incidence of road accidents/deaths in the world. The sheer lack of accountability also, sadly, is a major contributor.
