If they read our letters they might learn something

Barbers, taxi drivers and barstool philosophers move over. To the list of those who know how to run the country better than those in power we can now add letters-to-the-editor writers.

I wonder whether the powers that be ever read these letters. As they are written in English, I have my doubts. I don’t know whether the Thai-language papers have a letters-to-the-editor section but if they do, I suspect those letters also are never read by the folks in charge.
While common sense prevails among the hoi polloi it seems to be a rare commodity in the lofty spheres of government. Were I in charge of a country (and I had carte blanche to do as I wished), I should designate a Cabinet-level officer called something like Reader of Letters to the Editor. That person would report back to me daily (as I would be too busy to read them myself) and I would adopt any and all of the suggestions that made sense to me and would improve the country. I am certain that my country would function much better as a result.
