LONG COMMITTED to supporting the protection of ocean habitats and indeed the ocean itself, high-end cosmetics brand La Mer Thailand marked World Ocean’s Day 2015 this month with the screening of the newly made documentary “Mission Blue”.
The 2014 film directed by Fisher Stevens and Robert Nixon tells the story of oceanographer, marine biologist, environmentalist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle and her campaign to create a global network of protected marine sanctuaries. It was screened to guests at Central Embassy Diplomat Screens in an event organised by La Mer brand manager Yaovaanong Chanawongse, and attended by several Thai ocean conservationists and prominent celebrities including Dr. Saranarat Kanjanavanit, Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Alicha Laisuthruklai, Pachara Chirathivat, Tipanan Srifuengfung, Yumi Kiangsiri, Anchisa Watcharapol, Tirawan Taechaubol, Krit Jirakiatwattana and Alena Piamkulawanich.
La Mer, which has been running its Blue Heart programme for several years and since 2008 has donated more than US$2.6 million to ocean conservation efforts, has officially continued its cooperation with National Geographic for the fourth consecutive year along with new generation explorers Dr David Gruber and Shannon Switzer.
“Mission Blue”, an exclusive 95 minutes documentary feature never before shown in Thailand, also stars “Avatar” director James Cameron, himself a respected deep-sea explorer. As educational as it is alluring, it drew the audience into the magical beauty of the underwater world.
For La Mer Thailand, singer Jetrin Wattanasin and actress Pachara Chirathivat participated in the Blue Heart campaign as “Editors at Sea” by sharing stories about their maritime journey on social media and encouraging viewers to share their own stories via #LaMerBlueHeart.
As usual, to commemorate World Oceans Day, every purchase of a 100ml jar of Creme de la Mer will go to charity. For the first time, the jar design will be inscribed with “Blue Heart” to communicate the brand’s ongoing goal of supporting the protection of the ocean. The limited-edition cream is available at La Mer counters in all department stores for as long as stocks last.
La Mer also recently introduced the new “Reparative Skin Tint SPF30”, which delivers a healthy looking glow while working to repair and protect the skin. A light-as-air tint, it’s infused with an innovative light and pigment technology to create beautifully translucent colour. Powered by deep-sea red algae, which is known for its ability to store and release energy as needed, this highly potent ferment helps reduce the look of pores, lines and wrinkles for a silky smooth, plump and renewed surface. SPF 30 and Lime Tea Concentrate, meanwhile, help protect against environmental aggressors while Miracle Broth empowers the skin’s natural repair process and protects from future damage.
