South Korea's MERS situation is under control

The number of Thai visitors to South Korea has declined in recent weeks due mainly to misunderstandings and rumours about MERS infections in the country. A June 17 World Health Organisation statement on MERS in South Korea provides a helpful guide.

The WHO did not recommend travel or trade restrictions and it considers screening at points of entry to be unnecessary at this time, because strong actions, including quarantining, have been taken to bring the outbreak under control, and infections are declining.

The WHO says there is no evidence of community transmission, and those who caught the virus have visited health facilities. As of June 23, MERS cases in South Korea numbered 175, of which 27 ended in death.
The Korean government will maintain its strong measures to control the spread of MERS until it has been eradicated.
