Happy Alien makes it clear that he/she is also content. However, it is clear the writer has little understanding of the situation in Thailand and particularly what transpired in Bangkok. The protesters who brought down the last self-serving government are referred to as “intimidating goons” and the “anti-government mob”. These people so insultingly referred to are the very reason the writer can now enjoy the peace and stability controlled by the junta.
These legal protesters might have denied others the freedom of to exercise in Lumpini Park for a few months, but that pales into insignificance to the need to overthrow an anti-democratic government that reduced Thailand to a failed state. The protesters sacrificed a great deal by leaving their homes from across the country and living rough around Bangkok.
They wanted true democracy where the government was accountable and governed in the interest of the people, not in its own interest. The police force was partisan and supporters of the government were armed military-style, but the coup restored order – the peace and stability we all now enjoy.
The “goons” and “mob” have set Thailand on course toward democracy. It will take considerable time, a generation perhaps, to make all Thais understand the value of true democracy, but the road map is there to follow.
