All American presidents should reject taking a salary

Republican candidate Donald Trump (World, September 19) says he'll refuse his salary if elected president. For once I agree with him.

The article noted that former presidents Herbert Hoover and John F Kennedy – both millionaires before becoming president – gave their salaries away to charity.

However, not all American presidents have been wealthy. But today anyone elected
president is not only wealthy but can look forward to making millions of dollars in book contracts and lecture fees after leaving office.
So all the candidates should take the “Donald Trump” pledge and say they will refuse their salary if elected president.
