Saying it would be wonderful if Christmas truly were a time of peace and goodwill is hardly being “aggressive”, as John Arnone claims.
Vegetarians and vegans who draw attention to the suffering of factory-farmed animals are merely trying to help others see that it’s unfair and unjust to subject animals to lives of torment for food we don’t need.
For more than three decades I ate meat, believing that we “needed” it for good health. Then I discovered we had absolutely no requirement for animal flesh in our diet. Nor do we need eggs or cow’s milk – yet chickens and cows suffered enormously on our farms. I wished that someone had opened my eyes to the truth sooner – and this is why I write letters to newspapers. I don’t want others to be as ignorant as I was.
