I find it very odd that the police involved in the murder case in the South seem to lack any support from anyone. Everyone wants to believe that the two derelicts were “tortured” into confessing and that police lied about it.
We’re talking about a police force here and two drunken drifters. And yet, all of the amateur sleuths are taking their side.
As for the issue of the police forensics lab not having some sort of accreditation, that sounds like a common lawyer’s ploy.
Letter writer Erik Bahrt is right about having a jury system, but like in the US, it should be a choice for the accused, between that or judges. Like most police forces in the world, there have been many corrupt Thai cops through the decades, but that doesn’t make them all corrupt. I’m having difficulty believing that top police brass would railroad two innocent suspects in an international murder trial and risk being caught.
Fudge some of the evidence to get the conviction, maybe, but a frame-up is just not likely. These two guys confessed and showed no signs of torture. They didn’t recant until some slick lawyer showed up and yet they have been elevated to sainthood. Sounds like the American justice system and the liberal left that constantly undermines it.
