Yesterday’s article once again demonstrates the lack of leadership within the major political parties in Thailand.
I read the article twice to check what positive suggestions for the draft charter those quoted were making, namely Pheu Thai’s Chaturon Chaisang and the Democrats’ Nipit Intrasombat. But all they offered was veiled criticism, such as calling the junta’s proposals “worrisome”. Nowhere did they offer suggestions for how these aspects of the draft could be improved.
This indicates a lack of leadership, which is likely why the Prayut government wants these “safeguard” clauses inserted in the constitution in the first place. For, as sure as night follows day, without these safeguards, Thailand will return to chaos, because whichever party is elected to govern won’t have the ability (maturity) to handle full democracy. That ability takes strong leadership.
Thailand is not the only country suffering this dismal state of affairs. In the United States, do Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton really represent the strongest leadership qualities and best candidates for president from among a population of 320 million? Or are they simply the best that money can buy?
