Trump is too great a risk

Re: “Why the Trump show is such fantastic entertainment”, Letters, March 18.

Songdej Praditsmanont thinks that a President Trump would be restrained by America’s system of “checks and balances”. Don’t bet on it.
If during the Cuban missile crisis President Kennedy had listened to General Curtis Lemay, who wanted him to take military action against the Russians in Cuba, we now know that would have caused a nuclear holocaust.
Fortunately, Kennedy listened to his more rational advisers such as his brother Bobby, who urged him to take a less militant path.
I simply can’t overestimate how dangerous it would be in this day and age for a madman like Donald Trump to be president of the United States. And although I don’t believe a man with his unfavourable ratings could get elected, every now and then I say to myself: “My God, what if I’m wrong?”
