American imperialism and way of life is collapsing

Re: “The Kennedys were mediocre, my friend”, Letters, March 24.

Mr Baker seems to be living in the era when the world was divided into “capitalists” (the good guys) and “commies” (the bad guys). Anybody caught in between was considered a threat to the American way of life.
Mr Baker calls the Kennedy brothers mediocre without giving one iota of evidence for that judgement. According to his theory, if both were assassinated in elaborate plots, the reason was to replace two mediocre people with better defenders of American interests. I beg to differ.
History shows that, since the demise of the Kennedys, the US has waged relentless wars on countries in the name of democracy. Washington brands any country that withholds its natural resources from the US “communist”, and that’s all the justification needed to invade.
The US is a world of euphemisms where, for example, there are no torturers, only “enhanced interrogators”. I suppose that, by “mediocre”, Mr Baker actually means a president who does not serve the interests of American imperialism.
America is in a mess unlike anything ever seen before, and the solution does not lie in other countries’ natural resources, but in its own way of thinking and life.
