Convenience in a compact casing

A MONOCHROME laser printer designed for a home office whose needs involve plenty of black-and-white printing, the sleek and compact Ricoh SP213Nw can be tucked away in a small space. Connecting wirelessly to your router, it measures 402 x 360 x 165 mm and weighs a mere 7.2 kg with the ink cartridge. 

Attractively designed in white with shiny black edges, it’s a fast laser printer and great value at less than Bt5,000. Its continuous print speed is 23 pages per minute and its first page print speed is about 10 seconds, counting from the time when the printer has received all printing data. The printer has a warm-up time of only 25 seconds.

The SP213Nw has quite a large paper capacity for a laser printer in this price range. Its tray can hold up to 150 sheets and it has a bypass tray that can feed one sheet of paper at a time.

Maximum printing resolution is 1200x600 dots per inch and standard resolution is 600x600 dpi. The printer is powered by a PA-20 66MHz CPU and it has 8 megabytes of memory for handling printing data . Boasting a LAN port at the back, it supports TCP/IP protocol and has a Wi-Fi connection. It can be installed to your home computer network without any complex hook up, specially if you connect it with a Wi-Fi link.

During the test, I simply pushed the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the printer and pushed the WPS button behind my Linksys WRT1200AC router and the printer automatically became part of my computer network. All I needed to do them was to install the driver software from a companion disk and the printer was ready.

The design is pleasingly minimal with only a Wi-Fi key, a start/stop button, job reset button and LED alert indicators.

I found during the test that the SP213Nw achieved the first page print speed of 10 seconds as rated by Ricoh. And the printouts really did look laser sharp.

The ink cartridge can be replaced by opening the front. Ricoh says its All-in-One print cartridge technology is cost saving with one cartridge printing up to 2,600 pages.

Ricoh SP213Nw retails for Bt4,480. The SP201N AIO cartridge with 2,600-page yield retails for Bt2,510 and with 1,500-page yield for Bt1,890.
