Stop hassling Japan about making an apology for the war

David Brown writes (Letters, May 25) that Japan should follow Germany’s example and apologise for the atrocities they committed during World War II.

Did America ever apologise for dropping two atomic bombs on Japan? And please don’t tell me a million people would have died if the war had continued. America’s two leading generals at the time, Douglas MacArthur and Dwight Eisenhower, both said the bombings were completely unnecessary. Even the war mongering Lt-General Curtis LeMay said the war would have been over in two weeks without dropping the bombs.
Did America ever apologise for the Vietnam War or the Iraqi War which lead to the rise of IS?
Aside from Germany which countries have apologised for the bad things they’ve done? So why is everyone always picking on Japan, which is now a peaceful democracy?
