The 22-year-old midfielder, who joined Muangthong United on a season-long loan from BEC Tero Sasana ahead of the start of Thai League season in March, was included in coach Kiatisak Senamuang’s 23man squad for the country’s most prestigious tournament running between June 3 and 5 at Rajamangala National Stadium.
National coach Kiatisak earlier suggested that he planned to employ the versatile Tanaboon in the centre of defence during the Cup featuring three other counฌtries, Syria, Jordan and UAE and the player said he was ready to play in any position for his country.
“If you ask me what is my favourite position I would say a defensive midfielder because that’s where I play at my club. However, I would have no problem playing as a central defender since the way you play in those two positions are very similar.
“The main job is to defend and try to stop the opposition reaching the dangerous areas. Nevertheless, I’m ready to play anywhere if I get a chance to play for the national side.
“I would like to thank the coach for putting his faith in me,” said Tanaboon.
The 22-year-old was convinced that the Thai side that will kick off its campaign against Syria in the semifinals of the event on Friday would be able to reclaim the trophy.
“Despite having a short period of time in training, we already got acquainted with each other and everyone is confident. If we’re able to perform to our standards we need not fear anyone.
“Like other fans, I would like to see the team win the tournament again.”
