THE SORTING of waste is becoming increasingly important the world over but while it is common and indeed mandatory in several European countries, Asia has been slow in catching on.
PTT is setting out to change Thai habits for the better with the launch of “Yak Lak Yim”, a campaign that urges consumers to sort their waste and dispose of it in the right bins in exchange for funding to assist nearby communities.
Sarun Rungkasiri, chief operating officer of PTT’s downstream petroleum business group, introduced the campaign during a press conference at CentralWorld to raise consumers’ awareness about environmental issues and make waste separation a habit. The waste sorting bins will be placed at PTT gas stations at more 1,400 locations countrywide.
“This campaign is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to environmental impact reduction by managing collection of waste for recycling and using the funds raised for community activities.
“PTT dealers all over the country are collaborating by setting aside a site for garbage containers and waste disposal that will generate revenue from recycling for nearby communities. Most importantly, this campaign implicates the synergy of all consumers in bringing a big smile to society by just correctly sorting trash for recycling.”
Eight young singers and actors, namely Mike Pirath, Aom Sushar, Mew Nittha, Kong Sarawit, Bank Thiti, JayJay Kritsanapoom, Captain Chonlathorn and Toy Pathompong, kicked off the event by dividing themselves into four teams and inviting fans to play games at www.YakLakYim.com to win the chance of taking part in CSR activities in four provinces.
The event was also attended by several environmentally conscious celebrities including Saisiri and Thanakorn Hoontrakul, Ploy Jariyavej and Asst Prof Dr Singh Intrachooto, the well-known |eco-designer.
