Jenny Moxham, on her usual hobbyhorse, asks why “most people now view bovine milk as an “important human food”.
She then goes on to answer her own question by telling us it is indoctrination and that “we are cleverly duped by the dairy industry into believing we need dairy for good health and strong bones”.
I wonder if she has read a damning report on many dietary regimes by the British National Obesity Forum and the Public Health Collaboration, which was released last month.
The report accuses major public-health bodies of colluding with the food industry to promote low fat diets and that this “corruption by commercial influences” represents “a significant threat to public health”.
The report calls for “a return to whole foods, such as meat, fish and dairy, as well as high-fat healthy foods, including avocados”.
It goes on to argue that saturated fat does not cause heart disease, while full-fat dairy products, including milk, yoghurt and cheese, can actually protect the heart.
The report is endorsed by some of Britain’s leading doctors, including clinicians, cardiologists and dieticians.
No, Jenny, it is not indoctrination that causes most of us to continue to consume dairy products. It is innate human knowledge acquired over the millennia.
