Military let the chaos fester as coup justification

Re: “Jury out on claim 2014 crisis made country ungovernable”, Letters, June 6.

Steve CM is absolutely right that Mr Songdej has no evidence the majority of Thais supported the coup. Since the government had been elected by a landslide, it is hardly likely that the majority of Thais wanted to overthrow it.
Steve is also correct that the military did nothing when the PDRC was deliberately trying to shut down Bangkok. I remember walking through Lumpini Park and feeling enraged that the PDRC thugs had taken it over and were destroying the beautiful scenery that I had always enjoyed. I asked myself why the military didn’t remove those outlaws and hooligans.
The military let the situation get “out of hand” before they had a coup, when they could have stopped the chaos at the beginning and defended the government they were obligated to defend, not overthrow it.
Mr Songdej, Vint Chavala and other elitist letter writers do not represent the Thai people (that’s why their side can’t win an election) and are only looking out for their own selfish interests.
