Germany, which welcomed a large number of migrants and refugees, had been safe from extremist attacks, unlike other countries in recent times, but has now started to suffer and bleed as well.
This was the deadliest attack in Germany since the rampage shooting by Palestinian terrorists at the 1972 Olympic Games. The mall is situated next to the Munich Olympic stadium where 11 Israeli athletes were taken hostage, to be killed later at the airport.
It was the third major act of violence against civilians in Western Europe in eight days. The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for the prior attacks in France, but so far no one has done so for this attack. Regardless, everyone is speculating about the mindset behind this abhorrent attack, but undoubtedly German intelligence agencies are fully capable of tracking down those who plotted this attack.
We stand with Germany and its citizens in their loss and grief and we are deeply saddened by yet another vicious attack on innocents.
