The healthiest brunch around

Latest Recipe at Le Meridien brings in the experts to ensure a nutritious dining experience

OFFERING A fresh option in guilt-free eating, popular all-day dining outlet Latest Recipe at Le Meridien Bangkok has teamed up with BNH Hospital and True Fitness on a Healthy Sunday Brunch Buffet, served on the last Sunday of every month.
It’s certain to change consumers’ perceptions about buffets.
The Healthy Sunday Brunch offers just as broad a selection of favourite international dishes, but diners also have a chance to improve their health.
A team of nutritionists from BNH will be set up in the restaurant with a hi-tech InBody 220 machine to run a couple of quick checks for guests wanting to customise their meal.
The machine evaluates nutrition level, muscle tone and body fat. Based on the results, a dietician offers suggestions for achieving a better nutritional balance in your life and a trainer from True Fitness will design an individualised workout programme to help get you in shape.
For his part, executive chef Markus Rotard has created a hearty but healthy East-meets-West menu at 18 different serving stations. There’s a wide choice in quiches, hot dishes, soups, pastas and “wrap & roll” specialities.
Patrons also receive a useful chart created by dermatologist and anti-ageing specialist Piriya Tamrongterakul that shows the buffet line with a list of top five health ailments in Thailand, colour-coded to guide them to the right station.
The Pasta Corner, for example, has a spinach fettuccine and whole-wheat penne that are ideal if you’ve got high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Adding pesto, tomatoes and pad khee mao sauce will boost your potassium, an essential remedy for these concerns.
People with high blood pressure, diabetes, migraines or high uric acid will benefit from the sauces and dips available at the BBQ and Seafood stations, so they can tuck into the meats, Alaska crabs, French oysters, tiger prawns and mussels without worry.
At the Carving Corner, the grilled butterfish, lamb, beef and pork are served with corn, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, all of which are low in fat and have anti-ageing properties, perfect for folks with diabetes.
The Cheese and Cold Cuts counters cater to migraine sufferers and people prone to stress with pineapple, papaya, olives, beetroot and peanuts to go with their imported Morbier, Emmental, Boursin and brie cheese and Coppa and Parma ham.
Everyone can benefit from a trip to the DYO Salad Bar where green and red oak lettuces, red coral and frillice iceberg come with homemade dressings made from apple, sesame and the tart French pickles known as cornichons.
Over at the Hot Dish table, wild rice joins steamed sea bass with plums, braised tofu with mushrooms, seared salmon with asparagus and honey-roasted beetroot, carrot and pumpkin.
And the Detox Drink station deploys all sorts of colourful fruit, vegetables and herbs in healthy juices that cleanse the stomach. The Twisty Fruit Punch (apple, kiwi, lemon, orange and pineapple) and Celery Parley Detox (pineapple, celery, lemon, cucumber and ginger) taste so good you’ll probably still end up feeling guilty.
