The Japanese domination began in the singles semi-finals when seventh seed Yusuke Takahashi stemmed the run of local hope Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul 6-2 6-4 in just 68 minutes. The world No 626 took control of the match with powerful serves and dominating groundstrokes that kept the Thai at bay.
Japan’s men further spoiled the day for Thai fans when Yuichi Ito and Jumpei Yamasaki beat Patcharapol Kawin and Jirat Navasirisomboon 6-4 6-4 for the men’s doubles title.
Takahashi will feature in an all-Japanese affair in today’s final against Renta Tokuda, who ousted countryman Jumpei Yamasaki 7-5 6-1 in one hour and 17 minutes.
The 18-year-old Takahashi, who celebrated his first Men’s Futures title in Vietnam last month, is 1-1 with Tokuda in their head-to-head record. Tokuda won their last encounter 5-7 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 in the 2015 Asian Junior Championship.
