I don’t know who is running things over there at The Nation, but this science versus religion debate has gone from odd to bizarre to diabolical. About the only thing it has accomplished is to bring out every farang in Thailand who has had their intuitive wheat separated from their reality chaff.
For my money, anyone who places his complete trust in either religion or science is one taco short of a combination plate. Consider the millions of misdiagnoses made by doctors over the decades, or the “science” we were taught as children about dinosaurs having scaly skin. Now we are informed that they had feathers.
Most of science is theory and all of religion is based on a game we played years ago at parties. Fifteen or 20 people would sit in a circle. Someone was chosen to start the game by whispering something into their neighbour’s ear. That person in turn whispered what he thought he heard into the next person’s ear. When it reached the last person, he said it out loud – and never was it even vaguely related to the original statement. This is the basis of all religion. As for diagnoses produced by science, like the man said: “Get another opinion.”
The main reason people believe all this tripe is because they just aren’t satisfied by what they see. I don’t understand this, because I have travelled and seen things that make the fairytales of religion and theories of science seem boring by comparison.
